Israel Matseke Zulu, formerly known as Israel Makoe, is a South African actor, poet, singer, and dancer. He was born in Alexandra Township and is the second born in a family of five. He was born in 1974, 50 years old (2024). Matseke is also known as MaOrange because of his light complexion. Israel gained recognition for his role as GP in the SABC1 drama series Gaz’lam from 2002 to 2005, also popularly known for his role as Don in the recent series called Gomora, playing a role of being Teddy’s father.

However, during the years 1988 to 1994, he was involved in criminal activities and got arrested for house breaking and theft when he was just 14 years old. In 1996, he was sentenced to eight years in prison. While serving his sentence, he formed a theater group called Abagobi Drama Group. He wrote and directed his first play, Hayi Kabi Magenge, which involved inmates and members of VSTC from Alexandra.

After his release from prison in 1999, Zulu had the opportunity to work for the Victory Songoba Theatre Company, where he auditioned for the award-winning SABC1 drama series YizoYizo. In the show, he played the role of a gang leader in prison and even recorded a soundtrack with kwaito star Mandoza.

Zulu is currently a director for the Alexandra-based theater group shoshovi. In 2015, he had a prominent role in the e.tv drama series Z’bondiwe as Jakes Masilo, Killer’s right-hand man, known for being cold, ruthless, and dangerous. In November 2016, Zulu made his debut on the Mzansi Magic soapie isiBaya, portraying the character of gangster Cyprian Gumbi. This marked the first time he was credited as Israel Matseke Zulu.

Despite losing his leg, he stated that it has not affected his confidence. He compared himself to iconic figures like Nelson Mandela, Lebo Mathosa, Brenda Fassie, and Mandoza, emphasizing his belief that his status and talent cannot be matched.
