Olwethu “Mackhanic” Mackay is quickly becoming one of South Africa’s favorite TV stars. At just 19 years old, he plays the character Senzo Zwide on the show House Of Zwide and absolutely loves his role. Mackay is from Johannesburg and describes himself as a professional actor and part-time musician. He is currently studying a motion picture course at AFDA with the hope of becoming a director.
Acting wasn’t something Mackay always knew he wanted to do. It was in his final year of high school when his school gave him and his classmates more chances to audition that he realized acting in South Africa could be a real possibility. Before that, when he was in grade 9, he watched his older sister perform in school plays while he helped out behind the scenes. Her performances inspired him to audition for plays the following year, and he even won the Best Actor Award at his high school. Through a family friend, he got the opportunity to attend the National School of the Arts after auditioning for dramatic arts.
In 2021, during his last year of high school, Mackay auditioned for Bomb Productions, and they liked him so much that they offered him a long-term role as Senzo Zwide.
