Constance ‘Connie’ Ferguson is a South African Motswana actress, executive producer, entrepreneur and filmmaker. The actor was born on 10 June 1970 in Kimberly, Northern Cape, South Africa and she is currently 53 years old. Connie is one of the most celebrated actresses in the film industry. She is famous for her role as Karabo Moroka on South Africa’s most popular soap opera called Generations where she played the role since 1994 until she left in 2010. She also starred as Harriet Khoza on Mzansi Magic drama series, The Queen. In 2018, Forbes Woman Africa magazine put her portrait on their cover page.

Personal Life

The actress was raised by her parents, Fish Masilo and Margaret Masilo. Her mother passed on in 2013 and her father is still very much alive. She is a South African with Botswana ancestry. She grew up with a passion for dancing and acting.

Connie married fellow actor Neo Matsunyane in 1992. They had their daughter Lesedi Sandi on 31 December 1992. After 5 years in marriage they divorced and that was in 1998. She remarried three years after her divorce to Shona Ferguson whom she met in July 2001 at Matseliso Secondary School. The couple welcomed their daughter in June 2001.

Unfortunately Shona Ferguson died on 20 July 2021 nearly after 20 years of marriage. He died due to COVID-19 related complications and left her a widow. She has three daughters, one from her first marriage with Neo Matsunyane and two from her second marriage with Shona Ferguson.

From her social media online posts, she is a gym enthusiast and she loves travelling.

Education

After completing her high school, She studied drama and performing arts and graduated at University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2012/2013 after dropping out in her second year of law. She had enrolled for Criminal Law but she was said to have failed the course and decided to quit. So she successfully established her career in the film acting industry.

Career

Connie became popular when she played the role of Karabo Moroka on the long-running Mzansi soap opera, Generations from the first episode on 4 February 1994. She left Generations in October 2010 after she played the character for 16 years. However, she returned four years later to assist the series rebrand to Generations: The Legacy. Apart from Generations, Connie has featured in other films and TV broadcasts.

There are several advertisements she also appeared on. These includes advertisements for Ellerines in 1990 to 1992 and 1995 where she featured on Ultramel Custard, Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion in the year 1992 and also on Black Like Me during 1998. Additionally, on advertising her other roles include a number of beauty and fashion shoots for Connie M Eyewear, Vodacom Billboards, Black Chic and Wella Sheen.

From 2011 to 2013, Connie starred as Marang Lebone, the matriarch of the Lebone family and a helicopter-mom on the M-Net soap opera The Wild. She has also played lead roles on What If, Crime Reporter, Maitemogelo and Soul City 1,2,3 and 4. In the production of Cape of Good Hope she had a lead role and also made a guest appearance on Okavango.

The actress produced and starred in the Mzansi Magic drama series Rockville in 2013. She is one of the celebrities to complete in the sixth season of the SABC3 reality competition Strictly Come Dancing in 2023. Connie produced and starred on Mzansi Magic soapie drama titled The Queen since 2016.

In 2010, Connie and her husband Shona Ferguson founded a television company called Ferguson Films. Their first productions include Rockville, iGazi, The Gift, The Throne, The Queen and The Imposter among other projects. These were commissioned by M-Net 3 years later.

She is also a business lady and an entrepreneur  who launched her fragrance firm in 2008 called True Self as well as a lotion company in 2014. The actress also models and advertises for famous brands and has been awarded ambassadorial roles.
