Somizi Mhlongo is a South African actor, dancer, choreographer, television presenter, and reality star. He is best known for his roles in the television series Generations, the soap opera Isidingo, the dance competition Strictly Come to Dancing South Africa, the reality show Living the Dream with Somizi, and his talk show, Somizi & Friends.

Early life

Somizi had a difficult childhood, growing up in poverty. He was born to parents Mary Twala and Ndaba Mhlongo. As a child, Somizi was involved in the arts, participating in drama and dance classes. His parents were actors, and they introduced him to the entertainment world at a young age.

Career

Born in Soweto, South Africa, Mhlongo had a tough start in life, growing up in poverty and experiencing the difficulties of apartheid. Somizi began his career as a dancer, choreographer and performer, working on various stage productions in South Africa. He began pursuing his dream of becoming an actor at 11 when he landed his first professional role in the television series Generations. From then on, Mhlongo was determined to make a career in the entertainment industry.

In 2004, he made his television debut as a host on the music channel BET Africa. Since then, he has hosted and appeared on numerous television shows, including The Real Goboza, Zaziwa and The Bantu Hour. He has also appeared in films such as Catch a Fire and The First Grader.

Somizi has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress Palesa Madisakwane in 2006, with whom he had one daughter, Bahumi Madisakwane. The couple divorced in 2011. Somizi then married Mohale Motaung in 2019. Their wedding was of class and was attended by famous individuals in Mzansi; however, their marriage only lasted for a year. 

 

Several sources say Somizi divorced Mohale because he was into marriage to secure the bag. Moreover, Mohale says Somizi Mhlongo abused him, and their conflict was settled in court.

 

Daughter

Somizi’s daughter is Bahumi Madisakwane, an actress and model. She is the daughter of Somizi and his first wife, Palesa Madisakwane.

Houses

Somizi owns two houses, one in Johannesburg and one in Cape Town. His Johannesburg house is a luxurious mansion with five bedrooms, five bathrooms, a private cinema, a gym, an outdoor swimming pool, and an entertainment area. His Cape Town house is a quaint cottage located on the beach. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a private pool, and a large terrace.
