She grew up along one sibling who happens to be her twin sister, Zanele Sangweni.
She is married Okielant Nkosi who is also a South African and they have two daughters together who supports her immensely in her acting career as portrayed in an appreciation post where she acknowledged them. At the age of 12, she lost on auditions for Ashell Road Fame which is a popular South African talent competition. However, she gained exposure and found a mentor from one of the band members of Mahotella Queens. She participated again three years later in a national miming challenge and she perfomed mimiking a cover version of one of Aretha Franklin’s songs. On this challenge she won and was auditioned for Mbongeni Ngema’s Sarafina play and played the lead role understudy in the stage version of Sarafina in 1992.
After 4 years of being a committed artist under Mbongeni Ngema who is a South African theatre producer, director, composer, lyricist and writer, Sindi returned to school where she finished her matric in 1996. She then returned to performing arts and stage plays. In 1997, she performed with Abigail Kubeka, Mary Twala and the late Nomhle Nkonyeni in the FNB Vita Award-winning Game. In 1997 again, she played a role in a play titled, The Game by Duma Ka Ndlovu.
She played Thandaza role for 20 years from the show’s inception and left in 2017 saying that she wanted to discover new opportunities and grow in her career through discovering new opportunities. Sindi left Muvhango to play a leading role of Lindiwe Dlamini-Dikana, an aggressive woman who would do whatever it takes to protect her wealth and keeping up her flamboyant lifestyle.
Sindi also appeared in a quiet a number TV drama roles and is one of The River’s producers. Some of the television shows she featured in include Sarafina, Generations and Soul city among others.
In the crossover episode of The Queen, she featured there as Lindiwe Dhlamini-Dhikana from The River as a friend of the lead female character, Harriet Khoza – Sebata.
As a singer, she has also a number of songs and has also collaborated with notable South African music artists. She also sang the theme song on The River TV series. She is also one of The River’s producers together with Phathutshedzo Makwarela and Gwydion Beynon.

In 2019 she won DStv MVC Award for Best Actress in Telenovela. She also got Royalty Soapie Award for Best Actress in telenovela 2019. On the Royalty Soapie Award, she was the Best Female Villain in 2020. In 2021, the actress won the SAFTA award in the Best Actress category for her role of Lindiwe in The River, television series.
